The Washington Peace Center and Northern Virginians for Peace & Justice hosts...

The famous Manson prosecutor, Vince Bugliosi, author of "The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder," Oct. 17 at UDC.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vincent_Bugliosi

Bugliosi’s argument is simple. Bush wanted a war with Iraq. He had to show that preemptive invasion of Iraq was justified. To do this Iraq had to be an imminent threat to the United States.  There were two major problems. Bush couldn’t prove any connection between Saddam Hussein and 9/11. More importantly, his own 2002 classified intelligence estimate findings of the National Intelligence Estimate (NEI) of 2002, classified the original document, and provided Congress with a doctored version to support his claims. By doing this, Bush pushed through an illegal invasion which he had to have known would cost U.S. lives. That, Bugliosi argues, is an act of murder committed against each and every U.S. soldier killed in this war.

Just a month away from one of the most important elections in US history, everyone is talking about elections, but few are talking about democracy. This documentary takes us across the Americas -from Venezuela's Communal Councils, to Brazil's Participatory Budgeting, from Constitutional Assemblies to grassroots movements, recuperated factories and cooperatives- to attempt to answer one of the most important questions of our time: What is Democracy? Beyond Elections is independently directed, filmed and produced by Latin America-based filmmakers and journalists, Michael Fox & Silvia Leindecker, who will join us for discussion after this special screening.

Mary Tillman and Narda Zacchino will sign and discuss Boots on the Ground by Dusk: The Remarkable Life and Death of Pat Tillman. To millions of people, Pat Tillman stands as the epitome of an American hero. On his way to stardom in the pros after a hugely successful college football career at Arizona State, where he graduated summa cum laude, he walked away from a multimillion-dollar NFL contract in response to the 9/11 attacks to enlist as a Ranger in the U.S. Army. On April 22, 2004, Pat Tillman was killed in Afghanistan in what the Administration and the Pentagon initially portrayed as a dramatic gun battle with the enemy. But in the weeks that followed, disturbing facts emerged. Army officials had been hiding the truth: Pat was killed by his fellow Rangers. Revealing explosive new facts about a tragedy that continues to rivet the nation, Mary Tillman shares the story of her efforts to uncover the truth about her son's death in Afghanistan at the hands of his fellow soldiers.
