Hello friends,Are you ready to express your complete opposition to state-sponsoredtorture, extraordinary rendition and continual detention in Guantanamo and nefarious black sites without official charge? Join us as we take our message to The CIA: TORTURE IS TERRORISM!11 months ago we held a 10-hour vigil in front of the CIA on Dolley Madison Blvd (193), and CLOSED their entrance. We did not enter onto their property, but were simply adjacent to it. At times there were as many police as there were vigilers. Some wore orange jumpsuits and black hoods, others simply carried signs or banners. We stayed in the brutal sun that day, and thousands passing by had to notice -- including CIA employees turned away from this main entrance. That was the first time in 20 years the CIA closed one of its entrances. Let's do it again, nonviolently but with passion in our hearts!pax,Pete

Although this is the 13th annual Takoma Park JazzFest, this one is special for three reasons. First, it is moving from its traditional site at Jecqui Park to Carroll Avenue to accommodate the huge numbers of people and large number of first-class bands that are participating. Second, this year's theme, "A Taste of New Orleans," reflects the decision of the organizers to raise funds at the JazzFest for our friends in Louisiana who are still struggling to rebuild several years after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

PATTY LOVELESS is an irrepressible and phenomenally effective campaigner for peace, non-violence, national health care, the rights of the disabled and an end to the death penalty. A veteran civil rights activist, he is a constant presence in all of our progressive political campaigns, and loves to teach about the social movements that have made America what it is today.

Finding Our Voices is about standing up for what you believe.  Not just another Iraq war film, this is a movie about patriotic Americans living their conscience.  At a time when our country looks for a change in leadership, this film celebrates our first amendment rights and our responsibility to participate in our Democracy.  Through the lens of the last 5 years, this movie explores the passion and determination of 8 men and women who sacrifice their jobs, give up their retirement and risk imprisonment in their patriotic dissent of the war in Iraq. Narrated by Martin Sheen.

No dissent, no debate. No debate, no democracy.

Thanks to the generosity of thousands of human rights supporters,  we've launched our Guantánamo Cell Tour, bringing a life-sized replica of a Guantánamo prison cell to cities across America.  The cell gives ordinary Americans a chance to see and feel what it's like to be prisoner at Guantánamo - and send an unequivocal message that torture is wrong and detention without trials is un-American.

Our Guantánamo Cell Tour is designed to recruit more activists across the country to put additional pressure on Congress to close down Guantánamo prison once and for all. We want to take the cell to key Congressional districts, the political conventions, and other cities and towns nationwide. The tour has already made stops in Miami and Philadelphia and now moves on to Portland, Maine. The first leg of our tour will culminate in a five-day stop (June 25-29) on the National Mall in Washington, DC prior to our lobbying meetings there and in-district ahead of the July 4th holiday. Along the way, thousands of Americans will have a chance to experience what it's like to be inside a Guantánamo cell, as well as record a protest video from inside the cell, which we'll post onto YouTube.
