Support requested for Alan McConnell's civil disobedience for impeachment at Kensington Farmers' Market this coming Saturday morning. After selling his "Impeach Him" buttons at the market for several months without incident, Alan was told two weeks ago that he could no longer do so. Alan had intended to violate this order and risk arrest this past Saturday but when the City of Kensington heard about that they took the extreme step of canceling the Saturday Farmer's Market. Certainly the city will not do that again and Alan is determinedto make his point this weekend by being dragged off if need be. The Washington Post, Montgomery County Centenial and Gazette, the City Paper, and WPFW have all expressed interest. If you can make it, please show up. The Farmer's Market is on Howard Avenue, about three hundred yards east of Connecticut Ave. For more information: DebbieTolson@aol.com

A public reenactment of a historic speech originally given by Paul Potter, former President of the Students for a Democratic Society, at the April 1965 March on Washington to End the War in Vietnam near the Washington Monument on the National Mall. This event is part of the Port Huron Project, a series of reenactments of protest speeches from the 1960s and 70s. Each performance in the project is staged at the site of the original speech and is delivered by an actor to an audience of invited guests and passers-by. Videos of these events are then distributed online and on DVD. The project is named after the Port Huron Statement, the visionary manifesto of the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), a radical student group formed in 1962.

Join us at Sankofa Bookstore & Cafe (2714 Georgia Ave NW, DC)
for the first installment of our ongoing film series. Every Thursday evening
during Black August we will feature a documentary about a different
political prisoner at 7pm. This week we will feature Passing it On.

A gritty and soulful classic film, PASSIN' IT ON is the story of one man
in search of justice who is wronged by the nation with which he is at odds.
Part indictment, part redemption tale, the film offers startling insight
into the role of the Black Panther Party in a social revolution, and the New
York Police Department and the FBI's devious targeting of one of the
organization's most fervent leaders--Dhoruba Bin Wahad (born Richard Moore)

Mexicanos Sin Fronteras and Woodbridge Workers Committee urgently  need your support and solidarity. On July 10, 2007 the Prince William  County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved anti-immigrant  legislation directing county employees to require proof of  citizenship before providing county services (except those protected  by state and federal laws). Additionally information about a person’s  status may be sent and received by county employees to other local,  state, and national agencies including Immigration and Customs  Enforcement. It also calls for PWC police to investigate a person’s  immigration status when detained by the police if there is “probable  cause” to believe that immigration laws were violated. In addition it  calls for an agreement between PWC police and Immigration and Customs  Enforcement that would train a group of PWC police to act as  immigration officials.  We believe this resolution targets people of  color, allows for racial profiling and violates the human and civil  rights of the immigrant community. It has already created at  atmosphere of fear and division in the community.
