Nyan Win, spokesman for the National League for Democracy (NLD), said bags of food sent to Suu Kyi's heavily guarded house yesterday were not picked up. He would not say whether this meant the Nobel laureate was refusing to eat.

The reports are unconfirmed as Suu Kyi's supporters are barred from meeting with her. It is known that the pro-democracy leader relies on the NLD's food deliveries for survival....

WASHINGTON - Kelly Jacobs will be wearing dresses made from a "peace flag" every day at the Democratic National Convention. As a delegate and a CodePink activist, she'll don bright pink earrings, shoes and backpacks — and hundreds of peace and pink-colored buttons.

"There's no getting away from the peace message. It's on my neck down to my waist," said Jacobs, 49.

The Mississippi activist, who is a delegate for Hillary Rodham Clinton, is one of about 20 CodePink women attending the Democratic convention. They probably won't be disruptive inside. But CodePink members outside the Denver convention are planning to stage parades, protests, concerts and other theatrics — anything to keep the anti-war message alive.

Demonstrators Criticize Decrease in Beds, Plans to Close Franklin School Shelter

About 20 homeless people and advocates gathered outside D.C. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty's house last night to protest the recent scaling back of beds at a downtown shelter, as well as plans to close it this fall...
Last week, some residents met in Franklin's dining hall and formed the Committee to Save Franklin School Shelter. Bean was appointed president, and another resident, Eric Sheptock, was named public affairs coordinator.

"It's really hard to get homeless guys to organize. When they began taking the beds apart, we had to get serious," Sheptock said.

Another group of demonstrators staged a similar protest last month outside D.C. Council member Tommy Wells's home. About 75 advocates in that group targeted Wells (D-Ward 6) because he is chairman of the council's Committee on Human Services. Wells promised to look into the issue.

"When the state goes off track, you usually do have to stand up," he said. When to do so, he said, is "an individual personal decision."
Paul then cited Mahatma Gandhi, the Indian spiritual leader who led nonviolent demonstrations to promote the independence of India from Great Britain, and Martin Luther King, who used the same nonviolent techniques on behalf of the American civil rights movement in the 1960s, as examples of physical protest.
On the economy, Paul said he did not expect an improvement any time soon. "We' ve only had 25 percent of the correction that is necessary" Paul said. "I think it's going to get much worse."

Paul compared the American economic situation to Japan's downturn in the late 1980s. "Japan still essentially hasn't recovered," he said. The current economic downturn, said Paul, "could last a decade or longer."

"What they're doing" is just prolonging the agony, Paul said, referring to the bailout of investment banks and other measures initiated earlier this year by the Federal Reserve, the nation's central bank. Paul said the Fed's easy money policy was like continuing to give a drug addict a fix, which he said makes the patient feel better, "but the patient dies."

"We are determined to deny them their strategic objective," Rice told reporters aboard her plane, adding that any attempt to re-create the Cold War by drawing a "new line" through Europe and intimidating former Soviet republics and ex-satellite states would fail.

"We are not going to allow Russia to draw a new line at those states that are not yet integrated into the trans-Atlantic structures," she said, referring to Georgia and Ukraine, which have not yet joined NATO or the European Union but would like to.

All but one were released the same day. Kathy Kelly was detained on an outstanding warrant that dates back over ten years to an act of nonviolent civil resistance at Project ELF. ELF was the Navy’s old transmitter system, closed in 2004, that played a key role in the nuclear first strategy of the United States (ELF was the bell ringer to call U.S. nuclear missile subs to the ocean’s surface to receive precise launch orders for a nuclear first strike against another country). It’s expected that she will be transferred to Ashland County to appear before the judge on the warrant. Arrest warrants have also been issued for several others previously arrested and convicted for acts of resistance to Project ELF who refused to pay fines.

The two-ton elephant in the living room of the neo-con strategy is the advanced biowar (ABW) that Iran, and to a lessor extent Syria, has. This places the motherlands of the major neo-con nations (America, France, the United Kingdom), as well as Israel, in grave danger. When the Soviet Union fell the Iranians hired as many out-of-work former Soviet advanced biowar experts as possible. In the last 15 or so years they have helped to develop a truly world class ABW program utilizing recombination DNA genetic engineering technology to create a large number of man made killer viruses. This form of weapon system does not require high tech military delivery systems. The viruses are sub-microscopic and once seeded in a population use the population itself as vectors. Seeding can be done without notice in shopping malls, churches, and other public places. The only real defense to an advanced global strategic biowar attack is to lock down the population as rapidly as possible and let those infected die off.
