Activist Coalition of D.C. (ACDC)
The Washington Peace Center has been leading the charge to facilitate better coordination and communication in the DC activist community. We are founding members of the Activist Coalition of D.C., or the ACDC.
The coalition is a progressive group dedicated to building capacity in DC through working together for more effective non-violent actions that are both locally and nationally catalyzed.
***Attention! The meeting to plan for Inauguration ’09 has been finalized!***
When: Sun, Nov 16, 12:00pm-3:00pm (Snacks will be provided)
Where: People's Media Center, 4132 Georgia Ave, NW Washington D.C., 20011 (3 blocks from the Georgia Ave/Petworth metro stop)
On November 16th, 2008, please join the Activist Coalition of D.C. in planning our demonstration strategies for the upcoming inauguration. No matter who wins, we want to be on the street to remind the new President that the people want to end the illegal and immoral occupation of Iraq NOW and start focusing on our problems here at home!
During this post-election meeting, we will decide what tactics, messaging, goals, and responsibilities we will take on for January 20th. We have already decided that we will focus much of our messaging around DC local issues, and would love to have the core participants be composed of many local DC peace and social justice groups.
If you think that your group would like to be a part of this historic event, and would like to send representatives, please RSVP to us at jan09@washingtonpeacecenter.net. Please provide the name of your group and the number of attendees. If you wish to do so, please come with action ideas or strategies in mind.
Also, please check our website periodically for more updates, and further information! To get involved, or to come to our monthly Coalition meetings, contact Sonia at 202-234-2000, sonia@washingtonpeacecenter.net.
More about the coalition:
We are unified by our commitment to stop this war and all future wars, as well as working to create a just and sustainable world. We support many different techniques of creating that change, including non-violent civil disobedience and many kinds of direct action. We are made up of individuals, many of whom are a part of or represent organizations, who will be holding themselves and others accountable to each other. We pledge to follow through on the responsibilities we take on and to ask for assistance if we cannot.
